Indoor Action

As we Melbournians all know, winter time can drag on and make the idea of going out less than appealing. But this year, why not mix things up a little and explore some local Glenferrie Hawthorn indoor activities and see out the colder months making fun and fond memories instead of piling on the blankets at home? Below are some cold weather resistant options for entertainment just waiting to be discovered.

ESCAPE ROOMS

Problem solving and interpreting clues makes you smarter. Additionally, you are not likely to be focused on the weather when you and your mates are racing against time, following clues and avoiding pitfalls. At one of two local Escape Rooms, namely Rush Escape Room at 606 Glenferrie Rd, and Escape Artistz at 567 Burwood Rd, choose from a variety of different experiences each, all unique. Whether you are into horror, dragons or Egyptian tombs, you will find your niche catered for.

GOLF AND COFFEE

As far as sports go, golf is not ideal during winter. Lots of standing around in open spaces, broken up by a long walk in very silly trousers. This is where Johnny’s Golf and Coffee shop at 434 Burwood Rd comes to the rescue. In indoor comfort, you can swing to your heart’s content in a high-tech golf simulator while owner, Johnny brews you up a coffee. Check in-store for golf ‘swinging’ times.

GALLERIES

Several art galleries and showrooms can be found in Glenferrie, including the Town Hall Gallery in the Hawthorn Arts Centre at 360 Burwood Rd, Gallery Elysium at 440-444 Burwood Rd and the recently opened Gioia Wall Art at 637 Glenferrie Rd. Each of these spaces boast regular exhibits, with a revolving door of talent and are simply waiting for you to wander in and get swept up in innumerable visual stories.

CHILD’S PLAY

For younger locals, there are some boredom beating options on offer. Lido Cinemas at 675 Glenferrie Rd are hosting the Children’s International Film Festival from 8 June to 7 July, showing a selection of the world’s ‘best modern movies for kids’. For the under 11’s, children’s indoor activity centre, Billy Lids Playland at 86 Lynch St, offers the potential of a full-day's play where kids can occupy themselves, while parents enjoy a coffee or lunch in the supervision zone. For cost-free fun, the Hawthorn Arts Centre at 360 Burwood Rd, offers the Explore and Create space which allows creative types of all ages to sit in a relaxing environment to create and connect with your inner artist.

TRIVIA/LIVE MUSIC/COMEDY

If you are looking for something a little more rowdy, local bars bring the noise with plenty of live music, comedy and trivia nights ideal for breaking up the working week and getting out of the house. Nevermind Bar at 336 Burwood Rd have a nightly calendar of attractions including a trivia night each Wednesday, open mic nights on Sundays and regular karaoke, drag shows, live performances and much more. Ramblers Ale Works at 96 Riversdale Rd offer the original ‘Curly’s Quiz’ on Wednesday nights with up to $200 in prizes and The Hawthorn Hotel at 481Burwood Rd hosts a Parma and Trivia night every Thursday. Lido Cinemas at 675 Glenferrie Rd keeps the groove running with their Jazz nights every Saturday, and the laughs flowing with Tuesday's live stand-up comedy.

YOUTH INTEREST

Boroondara Youth Hub at Level 1, 360 Burwood Road is a free local hang out for the 10-25 age group. The indoor space has plenty on offer: pool table, table tennis, Nintendo Switch, board games, mini library, music studio and a computer lab. Youths can also have a chat and get advice or support from the experienced youth support team. After hanging out at the Youth Hub, a visit to The Selfie Studio at 666 Glenferrie Rd can help capture a memorable day out with mates. The studio - not only for youths - offers a series of thematic booths and evoke a relaxed setting in which to pose, pout and play up to the camera to your heart’s content.

So why not come out from under the covers this winter, get busy and lift your spirits with some of Glenferrie Hawthorn’s best indoor activities.
