Boroondara Council Elections

This October, all eligible Boroondara residents are required by law to submit a postal vote for the 2024 Council elections.


Statewide, Councils spend over $8 billion annually to provide over 100 different services to communities. Councils are responsible for land use, building controls, public health services, domestic animal control and environmental protection legislation. 


Nominations for councillors opens 9 September 2024 and closes 12pm, 17 September.


Two types of voters are; State-enrolled -

  • Lived in Boroondara for longer than a month

  • Over 18

  • Australian citizen

Council-enrolled -

  • Ratepayers (over 18 property owner,  occupier, or representative of a corporation)  

  • Not already enrolled in Boroondara as a state-enrolled voter


You can only vote once in a Council area. Boroondara has 11 wards and residents vote for a Council candidate in the ward they are enrolled in i.e. Glenferrie Ward, Riversdale Ward. Voting is compulsory for everyone enrolled to vote. If you do not vote, then you may receive a fine from the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). Ballot packs will be mailed out from Monday 7 October and need to be completed and posted by 6pm on Friday 25 October 2024. Submit your vote by mail or in person at the VEC office.
