Dr. Lisa Brownfoot

Some people, not just children, may feel nervous or anxious before a trip to the dentist. But with Dr Lisa Brownfoot's comforting personality and upbeat attitude, there is no doubt that you will be looking forward to your next teeth clean at the dentist.

Lisa took ownership at Gentle Dental a year ago in February 2019 and she could not be happier.

Growing up in Melbourne's south-east for most of her life, near the Dandenong Ranges, after high school Lisa moved to Adelaide to study dentistry at Adelaide University. After graduating, she stayed in Adelaide working as a dentist and two years later returned to Melbourne to be closer to friends and family, since "Melbourne is home".

Moving to southern Melbourne on her return, Lisa spent six-and-a-half years working in the CBD at a corporate-style dentistry. Here, she realised she wanted to develop greater connections with her patients and have life-long relationships. She began searching for a practice to purchase.

When Lisa came across Gentle Dental, she knew this was exactly what she had been looking for. Familiar with Hawthorn, because she had come here in her early 20s to the local pubs and to visit friends for dinner, Lisa knew that this would be the right area where she could be "a part of the community."

At the clinic Lisa sees a range of different people from families, young children, students, teachers from Swinburne and surrounding schools and the older generation of individuals who have been in Hawthorn their entire lives. Her favourite part of being a dentist is getting to know people. She especially enjoys the challenge of easing the nerves of patients who may be anxious and she strives to ensure a visit to the dentist is a positive experience.

Along with now operating Gentle Dental, Lisa moved house only a short walk away. She comments that she feels part of the community even just by passing clients on the street. Lisa and her dental assistants regularly get drinks from Liar Liar and she has been excited to try out new restaurants and cafes in the area. So far she has enjoyed Marci, Fat Boy Thai, Osteria 20, having her nails done at the different salons along the street and grocery shopping at Woolworths. "Glenferrie's amazing, it has everything you could ever need."

Lisa is happy to have found both Gentle Dental and a new home here in Hawthorn. At the practice, she is not looking to change things all at once but is aiming to keep the long term clients happy as well as meeting the needs of newer patients. Lisa and her great team of staff are looking into ways to get involved in the community, from talks at local schools to participating in this year's Glenferrie Festival. When visiting Gentle Dental or passing Dr Lisa Brownfoot on the street, you are sure to be greeted with a smile.
