Hot Garbage

At 10:00pm on Saturday 17 February 2018 a fire started in the rear lane of Glenferrie Centre, adjacent to Alfred Street. The lane is home to several 660L+ rubbish and recycling bins, which belong to the businesses inside Glenferrie Centre including Woolworths, Subway and Continental Deli. The area is under 24 hour surveillance and the incident has been reported to police.

The last edition of the Glenferrie Times shed light on fire safety in the area after another fire started in a rubbish bin at the rear of 806* Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn. A reminder to traders and locals that proper disposal of flammable materials and all waste is vital to keeping our streets and businesses safe.

Luckily in the case of Saturday’s fire the incident was kept under control, but this is not always the case. Fires can spread quickly and easily and if the streets and lanes are kept clean by locals and traders we can minimise fire risks.

The Glenferrie Times previously stated that the fire had started at 804 Glenferrie Road, however this was not accurate.
