2018 Chinese Zodiac - Year of the Dog
The Calendar New Year is already upon us, but many in Hawthorn will be celebrating the Chinese New Year this February. The actual date of the Chinese New Year changes from year to year, depending on the position of the sun and moon, and takes place on the 18th of February this year. Like the Western-style zodiac, the Chinese zodiac also features 12 icons but one is assigned to each year, in a twelve-year cycle. 2017 was the year of the Rooster, while 2018 is the year of the Dog.
Many Chinese people celebrate the New Year with a “reunion dinner” with family and traditional food, as well as with fireworks and decorations. Glenferrie’s Tao Tao House will be celebrating with a Year of the Dog Banquet in the evening on 17 February. A traditional Lion Dance will kick off the night before a delicious selection of Chinese food and a firecracker display sees in the Lunar New Year.
