Trader Spotlight: Le CLEC

Darren Wierzbowski

Only open since November 2016, Le Clec has been a great addition to Glenferrie Hawthorn. Offering a seasonal menu and food under the unique category of French-Asian fusion, supervisor Darren explains, “we offer a different menu to stand out from the crowd.” A family owned business, the owners pride themselves on great customer service and offering support and specific training to all employees. Darren is one of two supervisors at Le Clec. His role is very hands on, he trains employees, ensures it is a safe and enjoyable environment, serves customers and makes sure they are satisfied with their experience.

Le Clec Superviser, Darren.

Le Clec has changed their menu since opening, introducing new ingredients, meals and even changing their brand of coffee. They are always looking to improve and value customer feedback. Darren grew up in Mitcham and now lives in Box Hill. He studied Hospitality at Box Hill TAFE and since then has worked in hospitality for 20+ years. Darren has worked at Le Meridien Hotel in their 5-star restaurant and at a number of other fine-dining establishments. After many years of the upscale atmosphere he decided to step away and work in a more casual setting. Le Clec has become the perfect place for him. Outside of working in hospitality, Darren is also a certified personal trainer. Although not training as often as he used to he’s still very active and involved in sport; playing tennis, squash, cycling and even spending time at the Glenferrie Oval, kicking the footy.

Le Clec Cafe and Restaurant.

Darren loves “the vibe” Glenferrie Hawthorn offers and after work or on weekends he and colleagues or friends frequent El Churro Café – Spanish Doughnuts, Sapa Hills, Santoni Pizzaria, and Nevermind Bar. He has formed good relationships with other traders and employees in the area. Le Clec offers a comfortable atmosphere inside and out. Deceptively small from the front, they actually offer a good amount of seating inside all the way through to their large courtyard out the back. The light and bright courtyard features a beautiful mix of greenery and dogs are welcome here too. Many customers take advantage of the pet friendly courtyard and enjoy a meal with their fury friends.
