Spring Racing Season

Here we are once again in the midst of another Melbourne Spring Racing Season. The sun has come out for spring and we can all be sure to enjoy it when it does, after what felt like a VERY long winter. With the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate in Moonee Valley kicking of the height of the Spring Carnival, the almighty anticipation hit for the Melbourne Cup as fashion trends and cup preparation swing into action. This year’s fashion style and trends, as per the expectation, appear to be all about the headpiece. Real, fake, and silver and gold flower arrangements have been seen atop salon quality hairdos, stunning and colourful fascinators and even headpieces made out of actual hair. Beautiful dresses and remarkable fashion have been seen thus far during the Spring Racing Carnival, and we can bet to see many more over the next month leading up to the annual Melbourne Cup over at Flemington Racecourse.

The Melbourne Cup, being the centrepiece of the spring carnival since 1861, hits home as the main event, kicking off next Tuesday the 7th of November at Flemington Racecourse. After a peaceful start since its conception, The Melbourne Cup became quickly popular as a carnival for picnics, parties, entertainment, celebrations and race-goers showing of their latest fashions. The cup very fleetingly developed as a place for socialites, politicians and Australia’s rich and famous, and after lasting for over a century and a half has now become a significant part of social and sporting culture in Australia, recognised all over the world as an international event (Melbourne Racing Club, 2017).

Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival has always been an exciting and refreshing way to jump into the warmer months, with festivities continuing until mid to late November. Fashion, being one of the key highlights to any race day event, gives the public an opportunity to dress to impress, getting a little fancy for a day of horse racing and great food and drink. In preparation for spring racing season, our own local retailers like Callipso One, ONYX and Digby's Boutique embrace the latest’s trends and season style, giving Glenferrie Road a taste of spring and a striking range of local shops to support when picking out the best outfit for race day.
