Toolangi at Corner of Chrystobel and Glenferrie

For some time the site of the historic house Tooling, originally built as a doctors house and surgery and still operating as a medical centre until recently, has been earmarked for development. The medical center relocated some time ago and now there is some movement at the site which includes both Toolangi, 733 Glenferrie Road, and The Garage, 735 Glenferrie Road.

The Garage was renovated by the current owners in 2002 and is one of the oldest known purpose-built motor garages in Victoria. While there are still retailers in The Garage at the moment, construction fencing is up next door at Toolangi and the overgrown shrubbery has been removed revealing the house, built circa 1905, which will be restored as part of the development by May Constructions. The development will include 21 new 1-4 bedroom luxury apartments, set behind Toolangi and behind and above The Garage. Once completed Toolangi will house professional suites and The Garage retail premises. There will be underground parking for all the apartments, retail and professional premises. The green outdoor space in front of Toolangi could provide a unique outdoor setting for a future café or restaurant based in The Garage.

May Constructions anticipates the new development will be completed by the end of 2018 and look forward to reactivating this area of Glenferrie Hawthorn.
