Victoria Telecommunication Museum- Hawthorn

Did you know that Glenferrie Hawthorn has its very own Telstra Telecommunication Museum at 375 Burwood Road, Hawthorn? The inconspicuous free entry museum is just opposite the Hawthorn Arts Centre and offers a range of information and displays. Go on a tour with one of the friendly volunteers to learn about the history of telecommunication in Australia, viewing different equipment used throughout the years from Morse Machine Telegraphy equipment, home, car, mobile and pay phones and manual switchboards dating back to the 1950’s.

The volunteers are extremely helpful, most having previously worked in the telecommunications industry, and are happy to answer any questions or show you how the old equipment operates.

One of the first manual switchboards in Australia.

Open for private groups by appointment, book at telstra.museum@team.telstra.com, or open to the public on the last Wednesday of each month from 10am to 3pm. For more information call 1800-MUSEUM or visit www.vtmuseum.org.au
