Butt-Out Victoria

New smoking laws enforced in all venues serving food as of August 1st 2017.

As of 1 August 2017, smoking in outdoor areas where food is served has been banned across Victoria. This ban includes footpath dining areas, courtyards and beer gardens, fairs, festivals and sporting events where food stalls are in use or food is being served. New designated smoking areas will need to be four metres away from nearest dining area or behind a 2.1 metre-high wall.

All other states have implemented this law with Victoria the last to follow suit with the hope of decreasing the effects of second-hand smoke and de-normalise smoking. Fines faced for disobeying new laws include $7,924.00 for venues and $793 for individuals caught.
